Everything a developer needs to start using and contributing to the design system: the tools, the access you need, local setup and the ticket workflow.
The ECO Design System gives Swedol and Tools one shared way to design and build. Three tools work together.
Together they keep design and code in step, so every digital platform looks and behaves the same.
Before you begin, make sure you have access to these tools.
| Tool | Used for | Access |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub | The code, for local development: alligo-eco-design-system | Request access to the repository. |
| Chromatic | Hosting and review of Storybook builds | Admin access is required. Ask a team admin for an invite. |
| Jira | The project board: tickets and swimlanes | Request access to the project board. |
| Confluence | General documentation, workflows and credentials | Request access. |
| Storybook | Browsing and testing components | Use the UAT environment. |
| Documentation | Guidelines, specifications and design tokens | This site. |
Follow the setup instructions in the README file to run Storybook on your machine.

Builds are automatic. When a working branch is merged into UAT or production, the environment is built and deployed to Chromatic, where the latest version can be viewed. Chromatic access is granted by an admin: log in at chromatic.com.
Public UAT branch: https://test-acceptance--67b6063b450f52d85d87d37f.chromatic.com/
Branching follows the main system workflow: a working branch from develop, a merge request, code review, UAT test and customer test, then merge. The ticket name depends on the type of work.
| New feature | Design system component | |
|---|---|---|
| Jira swimlane | Standard ticket | “Design System Components” |
| Branch name | feature/AE-2247/drawer-slider | feature/EDS-2234/drawer-slider-component |
| Reviewed in | The main system, on UAT | Chromatic and Storybook only |
Use this when a feature depends on the design system. Example: a new text area in a div that uses a Storybook button. The div and text are created in the feature, and the button is imported from Storybook.
It is a two-part process. First create the component in the “Design System Components” workflow. Then include it in the standard ticket, which is reviewed as a whole.
The steps:
The main system then syncs automatically with the Storybook git repo (develop branch), and the styles become available in the main system.
